Burial Date: July 22, 2018

Funeral service will be 4 p.m. Sunday, July 22, 2018 at the Hope Baptist Church, Frametown with Reverend Rich Demastus and Reverend Allen Donaldson officiating. Interment will be in the Stumbo James Cemetery, Frametown.

Visitation will be three hours prior to service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Ronald “Tony” Shuman Scholarship Fund, c/o Premier Bank, PO Box 40, Gassaway, WV 26624 or to the Stumbo James Cemetery Fund, c/o Shirley Shuman, 308 Birch Street, Gassaway, WV 26624.

Lillie Grace “Granny Grace” James, 101, of Frametown died of natural causes on July 18, 2018. She was born at Middle Run on June 24, 1917, the daughter of Opal Martin.

She was married to Elliott Spencer James, who preceded her in death. They were the parents of Shirley Shuman, Ronald James (deceased), Anne Mollohan (deceased); Eulace James; Bob James(Annie) and Rebecca Drake.

She is also survived by grandchildren, Joel Shuman(Christine), Thomas Shuman (Pam), Philip Shuman (Cathy), Christopher Shuman (Cindy), Mary Anne Backus (John), and Brian Shuman (Lisa),Tammy Grandia (Ron), Doug James, Carrie Mace (Lane), Johnny Mollohan, Sarah Mollohan, Charlie Mollohan, David Drake Jr. (Tonya), Thomas J. Drake, Staci Gerwig (Brian), and Caleb James (Kayla). She is also survived by 30 great-grandchildren and 22 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by husband, Elliot Spencer James; son, Ronald James; daughter, Ann Mollohan; granddaughter, Karen Ann Mollohan; and beloved sons-in-law, David Drake and Ronald Shuman.

Grace was a member of Hope Baptist Church, the Rebecca Lodge and Spruce Grove Homemakers Club, and she was chosen as Braxton County Belle for the Glenville Folk Festival. Known as “Granny Grace” not only by her family but by literally hundreds of others—many of whom she baby-sat, she was noted for her gifts of home-baked bread, cinnamon rolls and apple pies on birthdays and other special occasions.
