Burial Date September 8, 2019

Service will be 3 p.m. Sunday, September 8, 2019 at the Sugar Creek Independent Baptist Church, Gassaway with Pastor Mark Stump and Pastor Allen Legg officiating.  Interment will be in the Sugar Creek Cemetery, Gassaway.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, September 7 and from noon to 2 p.m. Sunday, September 8 at Roach Funeral Home, Gassaway.

Letha Elizabeth (White) Cantrell, age 85, of Gassaway, WV passed from this life to her heavenly home hearing her daughter, Nancy singing the hymns that she loved and sang.

She was born June 20, 1934 in Widen, Clay County, WV to the late Preston and Gaynel (Woods) White.

In addition to her husband, Overton Lee “Obie” Cantrell who passed January 9, 2004, she was preceded in death by her son, John Wayne Cantrell; grandson, Lance Cpl. John Thomas Byrd and many family members that loved her.

She is survived by her son, SFC (US Army Retired) Steven Lee and wife, Jean Borromeo Cantrell of Fort Bragg, Fayetteville, NC; daughter, Nancy Kay Cantrell – Byrd of Westover, WV; grandchildren, Amy Diane Cantrell – Smith, Mary Elizabeth Cantrell – Bowman, Steven Adam Cantrell, John Wayne Cantrell II, whom she and Obie raised, Holly Noel Elizabeth Byrd; nine great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Judy Kay McMillion and husband, Kent; brother-in-law, Jearld Cantrell and wife, Violet; several nieces and nephews.

She was a long time active member of the Sugar Creek Independent Baptist Church, where she worked with the Ladies Helping Hands.  She was a past member of Braxton County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and sang in the Gassaway Baptist Church cantatas.  She got her high school diploma from Webster County High School.

She was able to finish her life in the home that she raised her kids and loved.

Letha will be missed by her family and many friends that she brought joy and laughter with her wonderful sense of humor.

We think we hear heaven laughing along with this beautiful lady.

In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial contributions be made to the Sugar Creek Independent Baptist Church Children’s Group Fund, PO Box 188, Gassaway, WV 26624.
