On August 10, 2019, God welcomed a very special angel into heaven – a daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, educator, mentor and friend.  Dessie Marie Wilson’s family was blessed to have her on earth for 93 three years.  Her spirit is carried on by her three children Bonnie (Don) Petty of Gassaway; Norman (Patty) Wilson of Hartville, Ohio; and Larry (Roberta) Wilson of Frametown.  She was very proud of her family of five natural grandchildren and five extended grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and six great-great grandchildren.

Dessie was born in Wilsie, West Virginia on July 8, 1926.  As the daughter of Houston and Anna Carr she was the youngest of nine girls who all preceded her in death.  Dessie married the love of her life, Harold Wilson, on July 15, 1943.  The couple spent 61 years together before Harold was called home by his heavenly father.   Dessie spent her career dedicated to educational service as a teacher’s aid and secretary at two one room school houses then retiring as secretary at Davis Elementary School in Gassaway.  She was dedicated to her family, community, and church.  She was a long-time member of the Belfont Simpson Church where she was secretary/treasurer and adult bible class leader for many years.  Her quiet confidence in her Christian belief allowed her to be a role model to many.

Farming and horses were a big part of her life.  She and Harold managed a 200-acre farm for 20 years before retiring to 29-acres.  They were founding members of the Central West Virginia Riding Club.  Some of her fondest memories and our memories of her were made on the trails on horseback.

May Dessie look down on us with pride at what she brought to this world as she truly was an angel of grace.
