Artenis “John” Johnson, 88 years old, of Frametown, WV, passed away after a short illness on September 5, 2018 at United Hospital Center in Clarksburg, WV.

John was born at Williams River, WV to Charlie and Olive Johnson on June 1, 1930. He married Bonnie Lee Cole on August 18, 1951 in Mavis, WV. He enlisted in the United States Army on November 20, 1951. He was in the Korean War Battalion 2nd Infantry Division until July 31, 1953 where he then spent the next seven years in the United States Army Reserves. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with two bronze battle campaign stars and the United Nations Service Medal. He was honorably discharged as an Army Corporal on November 27, 1959.

After serving his country in the United States Army, he went on to work at Sand Companies and Foundries in Ohio. This led him to his calling of a heavy equipment operator where he helped pioneer interstate systems in West Virginia. He worked Coal Mines as well and retired at the age of 65. After retirement he enjoyed the outdoors, gardening, and “piddling” as he liked to call it in his workshop. He was a previous member of the Frametown and Servia Volunteer Fire Departments. He attended Unity Baptist Church in Servia, WV.

John is preceded in death by wife, Bonnie Lee Johnson in 1996. He is also preceded in death by parents Charlie and Olive Johnson; brother, Tom; sisters, Betty, Mary Ruth, Ollilee, Zelda and half-sisters Debbie, Louis and Jeanne.

John is survived by sons, Robert Johnson of Glenville, WV, Richard Johnson of FL, Michael (Kim) Johnson of Frametown, WV; and daughter, Judy (Kenneth) Cook of Ellijay, GA; brother, Jim (Vera) Johnson of Wilsie, WV. Surviving grandchildren include Jessica (Eric) Rice of Buckhannon, WV; Sara (Scott) Lyons of Parkersburg, WV; Mandy Priddy of New Smyrna Beach, FL; Jennifer (Brian) Smarr of Frametown, WV; John Paul (Kelly) Cook of Winter Springs, FL; Eric Johnson; and eleven great grandchildren.

The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to everyone for their thoughts and prayers, United Hospital Center staff for their kindness, compassion and care during this time.
